COMPOSING / ARRANGING / WRITING

This has become my main area of interest in the past few years: I’ve found that I NEED to be writing, and composing, not only the short-form works and songs that have occupied me until recently, but now I’m thrilled to be writing long-form works, from full concerts to full music-theater works. I’ve got lots of irons in lots of fires, so I’ll be announcing exciting new projects here, as soon as I’m allowed!

Clearly, as a singer-actor, when I write music and/or lyrics, I’m very much drawn to storytelling – especially when it comes to creating songs.

I like to call everything that I do Theatrical Music – if you say “musical theater” people have a clear idea what that means to them – but “theatrical music” covers that, and all the other bases as well.

Whether it’s music for the theater, for the concert hall, or even for a barbecue party, I love to write songs with catchy tunes, clever lyrics, and over all, great storytelling.

And when crafting the narrations that I do when performing with an orchestra, I love making them as engaging as possible for our audiences, today.

SLiM-Slam (stories, librettos, lyrics, and music by Jake Endres)

This one requires some explanation! :-)

During the first three weeks of March 2025, I gave myself a writing assignment:

every third day I’d write a short story (up to two pages);

the day after that, I’d adapt that story as a libretto and/or lyrics;

the day after that, I’d set that to music;

and then I’d do it all over again, six more times

so at the end of the three weeks, I had:

7 original stories, 7 adaptations, and 7 new pieces of music-theater,

all in different literary & musical forms & genres.

It’s all pretty darn fun.

By the way, this entire set of pieces is available from me HERE,

(videos also available upon request)

as it’s PERFECT for an opera/music-theater workshop, or for a Young Artist Program,

as you can cast the whole thing with anything from 4 to 20 performers!
